Quick overview
This workflow runs hourly to monitor one or more GitHub repositories’ public releases feeds and sends a single grouped alert to a Telegram chat when it detects new releases.
How it works
- Runs every hour on a schedule.
- Reads your comma-separated watch list and turns each GitHub repository into its
releases.atom feed URL.
- Fetches the latest entries from each repository’s public GitHub releases RSS/Atom feed, continuing even if one feed fails.
- Filters out pre-releases (unless enabled), detects which release entries are new since the last run, and formats a grouped Telegram message including title, date, notes excerpt, and link.
- Splits output to stay under Telegram’s message size limit and remembers which release IDs were successfully sent so they are not re-sent on later runs.
- Sends the formatted release alerts to your Telegram chat using HTML parse mode with link previews disabled.
Setup
- Create a Telegram bot with @BotFather and add its token as Telegram credentials in the Telegram node.
- Get your Telegram chat ID and set it in the watch list configuration.
- Update the repository list in the watch list configuration using
owner/repo (or full GitHub URLs) and optionally enable pre-releases and adjust the release-notes excerpt length.
- Activate the workflow and keep in mind it stores seen release IDs in n8n workflow static data between runs.
