Quick overview
This workflow prepares a text-based fax via the Fax for Agents API, optionally requests human approval when required, sends the fax, and then polls Fax for Agents for the final delivery state and evidence.
How it works
- Runs manually to start the fax send process.
- Creates a fax document in Fax for Agents from the provided text and filename, then requests a fax quote for the destination number.
- Checks whether the quote requires authorization and, if required, creates an approval request in Fax for Agents.
- Polls Fax for Agents every 30 seconds until the approval request returns an approved or non-approved status.
- Sends the fax through Fax for Agents using the quote ID (and the approval ID when approval is required).
- Polls Fax for Agents every 10 seconds for the fax state until it is delivered, failed, partial, or unknown.
- Outputs a result object with delivery evidence for delivered faxes, a failure code for failed faxes, or a “needs a person” status for partial/unknown outcomes.
Setup
- Create a Fax for Agents API key and add it to an n8n HTTP Bearer Auth credential used by all HTTP Request steps.
- Update the destination phone number, fax text, filename, and approval message in the fax input values.
- If using live sending, ensure your Fax for Agents account is configured for human approvals or an applicable delegated policy so approvals can be decided outside of automation.
