Review and approve ShowBits clips in Slack with two-step approvals

Quick overview

This workflow receives signed webhook events from ShowBits, posts clips in review to a Slack channel with an approve/send-back prompt, and then records the decision back in ShowBits while reporting the outcome in Slack.

How it works

  1. Receives a POST webhook from ShowBits and verifies the HMAC signature, event freshness (5 minutes), and event payload before immediately acknowledging or rejecting the request.
  2. Deduplicates events by event ID to prevent reprocessing repeated deliveries.
  3. When an episode is analysed, fetches up to 200 clips in review for that episode from the ShowBits Automation API; when a clip is submitted or forwarded, targets the single clip from the event.
  4. Processes clips one at a time with a short delay, retrieves the latest clip details from ShowBits, and skips asking if the clip is no longer in review.
  5. Builds a Slack review message (title, approval step, metadata, caption, hashtags, and a link to ShowBits) and uploads the clip video file to Slack when available.
  6. Sends a double-confirmation approval request to Slack that waits up to the configured time for an Approve or Send back response.
  7. Posts the selected decision back to ShowBits at the displayed approval stage and publishes a short status message to Slack (including timeouts or API errors).

Setup

  1. In ShowBits, create an automation connection and a webhook for the events episode.analysed, clip.submitted, and clip.forwarded, using the workflow’s production webhook URL.
  2. Create an n8n HTTP Header Auth credential for ShowBits (Authorization: Bearer ...) and use it for the ShowBits API requests.
  3. Create an n8n Crypto credential containing the ShowBits webhook secret used to validate the ShowBits-Signature header.
  4. Add Slack bot credentials with permission to post messages and upload files, invite the bot to the target channel, and set the Slack channel ID in the workflow configuration.
  5. Adjust the approval wait time (waitHours) if needed and publish the workflow.
