Send grouped failed execution digests via Data Tables, email, and webhooks

Quick overview

Record production workflow failures in a Data Table and group recurring errors into one HTML email digest. Mark only the delivered snapshot as sent, with optional webhook delivery.

How it works

  1. Error Trigger receives failures from monitored production workflows.
  2. A Code node removes changing numeric values, UUIDs and common long ID forms from the fingerprint input.
  3. The core Crypto node hashes the input and the Data Table node inserts a pending event.
  4. An hourly scheduler or manual trigger reads pending events and sends one escaped HTML digest.
  5. An optional webhook receives the digest. Only row IDs from the delivered snapshot are marked sent.

Setup

  1. Create the Data Table columns listed in SETUP.md, enter its ID and email settings in Config, and select SMTP credentials. Publish this workflow and select it as the error workflow in each monitored workflow's settings. Test with a production trigger; manual failures do not represent normal production error handling. Then activate the workflow.

Requirements

  • n8n 2.8.4 with Data Tables, SMTP and permissions to save operational failure information. No external database or community node is required. Keep digest sends sequential.

Customization

  • Set digestEveryHours to 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 or 24 in Config. Set the instance URL for execution links, recipients and optional webhook. Normalization groups errors that differ only in numbers or common IDs; adapt it if numeric codes distinguish incidents in your system.

Additional info

Who is this for: Owners of multiple workflows who want grouped notifications rather than one email per failure.

What it does: Records workflow name, failing node, raw error, execution link and timestamp. Groups unsent events using a SHA256 hash of workflow ID, node and normalized error message. Each group includes a count and first and last seen times. Empty digests send nothing.

Tested: n8n 2.8.4 with real production failures, Error Trigger, Data Table storage, Crypto, successful and rejected local SMTP delivery, optional local webhook, and an empty repeat digest. Production SMTP providers and wall-clock schedules were not tested.
